Ford’s History of Defective Cars and Recalls

Like other major auto manufacturers, Ford Motor Company has a history of selling defective cars and trucks to unsuspecting auto buyers. These often wind up the subject of a recall, frequently after the damage has already been done to a number of Ford owners and other accident victims. If you’ve been the victim of an accident caused by a defective Ford car or truck, you have the right to compensation. If you’ve suffered financial harm because of a defect with your Ford vehicle, you could be entitled to compensation under California’s Lemon Law.

We’ve compiled many of the recent Ford recalls and list them below. If your Ford car or truck is covered by one of the recalls, or if your Ford vehicle is otherwise defective, you have the right to be compensated for the property damage, personal injury, and other financial hardships you’ve endured as a result.

2021-2022 Ford E-350 and E-450: Power Steering Defect

Ford recently recalled over 44,000 model year 2021-2022 E-350 and E-450 vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels. There’s a possible connection problem with the power steering pressure line and the brake unit, which can cause a sudden loss of power steering fluid. Loss of fluid can lead to sudden loss of power steering and power brake assist, which can in turn lead to a crash.

2022 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator: Fuel System Defect

Ford has issued a recall for certain model year 2022 Explore and Lincoln Aviators. The vehicles are equipped with a fuel filter that is at risk of detachment during a crash. Fuel systems that detach upon impact increase the risk of a fire, and violate certain Federal motor safety regulations.

2017-2022 F-250 and F-350, 2021-2022 F-150: : Driveshaft Defect

Ford issued a recall for over 247,000 model years 2017 through 2022 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty vehicles as well as close to 185,000 2021-2022 F-150s. The recalls were based on the risk that underbody heat and noise insulators are prone to loosening, leading to contact with the aluminum driveshaft that can cause fracturing. Fractured driveshafts can cut drive power or cause the vehicle to lose control, should the driveshaft come into contact with the ground. The vehicles may also start moving while parked when the parking brake is not engaged.

2021-2022 Ford Bronco Sport and Escape: Defective Brake Linings

Certain 2021-2022 Bronco Sport and Escapes were equipped with poorly-manufactured brake linings, rendering the brakes more difficult to engage and preventing the driver from stopping.

2021 Super Duty Models: Fuel Filter Defect

Ford’s 2021 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600, as well as the Medium Duty F-650 and F-750, are equipped with a faulty fuel filter cap, which can lead to leakage over time. Fuel leakage near the ignition source can lead to a fire.

2015-2017 Ford Mustang: Rearview Camera Defect

Over 330,000 model year 2015 through 2017 Ford Mustangs were recalled for faulty wiring in the rearview camera. Loose or damaged wiring can cause the image to be blank or distorted, limiting the driver’s view and increasing the risk of an accident.

2014-2015 Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 Mustang: Brake Defect

Ford issued a massive recall of nearly 200,000 model year 2014-2015 vehicles after the discovery of defective designs in the brake system. The brake pedal bumper was discovered to be prone to corrosion and separation from the brake pedal when exposed to certain environmental conditions such as high humidity and salty air. The brake pedal bumper malfunction may cause the brake lights to illuminate constantly and can allow the driver to shift out of park without engaging the brake, both of which increase the risk of a crash.
